Moved Member Shaw, seconded Member Bulling and resolved:

That the Thornbury Community Development Area Subcommittee accept the apologies.

6             Confirmation of Minutes

 

Resolution

Moved Member Bulling, seconded Member Hancox  and resolved:

That the minutes of Thornbury Community Development Area Subcommittee meeting held on 8 March 2018 be confirmed as a true and correct record.

 

Reports

 

 

7.1

Council Report

Record No: R/18/5/10904

 

Community Partnerships Leader (Simon Moran) presented this item.

 

Mr Moran advised the purpose of the report is to provide an overview of key issues across the Southland District, as well as high level local issues from various Council units.

 

Mr Moran informed the report highlighted various issues of interest including:

§  Land Transport Government Policy Statement (GPS)

§  Local road maintenance programme and possible funding available for footpaths

§  Freedom Camping

§  The panels commemorating the WWI soldiers killed in action were completed and installed in time for ANZAC day.

 

Mr Moran raised the issue of whether the subcommittee wished to proceed with having panels made commemorating WWII soldiers.

 

Following discussion Members requested staff investigate costings relating to an additional panel commemorating World War II soldiers and report back to the next meeting of the subcommittee.

 

 

 

Resolution

Moved Member Bulling, seconded Member Hancox  and resolved:

That the Thornbury Community Development Area Subcommittee:

a)            Receives the report titled “Council Report” dated 23 April 2018.

 

b)           Request staff obtain costings for an information panel commemorating WWII soldiers and report back to the next formal meeting of the subcommittee.

 

Updates

 

 

8.1

Chairperson's Report

 

The Chairperson, Member Bulling reported on activities with which he has been involved since the Subcommittee’s last meeting.  This included the following:

§  attendance at the New Zealand Ploughing Final competition held in Thornbury Township - the Chair commented that the village looked great and expressed appreciation to the Community Engineer and Council staff for all their support

 

§  encouraged members to use Council’s Request For Service for any issues that may arise

 

Member Shaw provided an update on activities relating to the hall advising maintenance work has been undertaken and a new heater installed in the meeting room.

 

 

8.2

Councillor's Report

 

Councillor Harpur reported on issues from the Council table which included:

 

§  update on representation review - Councillor Harpur encouraged members to make individual submission by the due date Wednesday, 6 June 2018

 

§  advice of Council tour of forestry blocks

 

§  advice of proposed changes to acquiring firearms Licences

 

§  advice of reduced funding for the Tuatapere Community Worker

 

§  advice of presentation to Council by the Rural Connectivity Group’s Engagement Manager, Caitlin Metz regarding mobile blackspots and broadband connectivity in the Southland area.
